Huskies Get Down To Work
December 22, 2004
The University of Connecticut football team held
its first workout on Wednesday at Ford Field, the palatial $500
million home field of the Detroit Lions and site of the Motor City
Bowl. The team will take it easy this evening, touring Detroit's
Greektown and Royal Oak neighborhoods. Tomorrow it is anticipated that
UConn will awaken to a winter wonderland as between 8 to 12 inches of
snow are expected in the Motor City between midnight and Thursday
evening.

Left, the team stretches prior to practice
under Ford Field's expansive roof...Right, defensive coordinator Hank
Hughes puts Ray Blagman through a drill.

Left, Director of Athletics Jeff Hathaway
chats with Terry Caulley as the punt team gets some work in...Right,
head coach Randy Edsall calls the team together after practice is
concluded.

The Motor City Bowl is a great opportunity for
Michigan-area alumni to connect with their school. At left, Edsall and
Andy Baylock chat with Pat Moug, an All-Yankee Conference performer
for the Huskies in 1983. At right, Edsall shares a laugh with UConn
graduate Celia Bobrowsky, who serves as the Director of Community
Affairs for the Detroit Tigers. Equally new Comerica Park, home of the
Tigers, is directly across the street from Ford Field.

The logistics of the week-long bowl trip are
far from simple. One of the cogs in the operation is Director of
Equipment Services Larry Hare, here holding down the fort in the UConn
locker room after practice.
