Off the Pitch with Coach Ray Reid: Sept. 5, 2007
Well,
one weekend is officially in the books. Over the weekend we had two
good results.
Our team
appears to have a "good way" to them so far this year. Over the weekend we
got great play from many of our players, but we also had tremendous
leadership from Dori Arad and Ryan Cordeiro. Both players did a lot of the
little things that made the difference in the two matches. Ryan has really
matured and has developed into one of the best left flank players in college
soccer. Dori did a great job of playing with Toni Stahl in the midfield and
dominating both matches.
But perhaps
the biggest surprise of all is Josh Ford, our red-shirt freshmen
goalkeeper. Josh has really developed into an outstanding goalkeeper and is
very reminiscent of Bryheem Hancock (Class of 2002).
The atmosphere
of both matches was unbelievable. We have led the country in attendance the
past few years but this year's crowd is different. Our Goal Patrol (student
spirit group) has over 400 members and has been a key asset in getting the
crowd going. These students are making a huge difference in our matches.
This is the largest student support group in the country for men's soccer
and provide us with great inspiration. I would personally like to thank all
of the members for your involvement.
