On a sad note, we are very saddened by the
passing of Betty Morrone, the wife of legendary UConn Coach Joe Morrone.
Betty was as much of the UConn fabric as well as Joe and touched hundreds of
players' lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Morrone, Joe Jr,
Billy and Missy on the passing of truly a special lady.
It is always a lot of fun when it is the
first week in December and your team is still playing. We will be playing
an outstanding Virginia Tech team on Saturday, December 8th at 1:00 p.m. at
Morrone Stadium in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Virginia Tech is coached by Oliver Weiss.
Oliver is one of the leading coaches in the nation. His teams are
organized, disciplined, talented, and play hard. This will clearly be a
very good opponent.
The Huskies
defeated the University of South Florida by a score of 5-0 in the Third
round of the NCAA Tournament. This was the third time that the Huskies and
Bulls had played this year. The match was played in 25-degree temperatures
and it was a real testament to the mental toughness of the Huskies to
prevail in this kind of environment.
The NCAA
Tournament has been very exciting this year. I would like to congratulate
two local teams who have had an outstanding postseason. Both the Central
Connecticut Blue Devils and the UMass Minutemen have done a great job as
Central advanced to the 3rd round and UMass is now in the quarterfinals.
Sean Green and Sam Koch should be commended for outstanding coaching jobs.
Sam upset the #1 seed Boston College Eagles in the 2nd round and Sean's
group upset Harvard in the 1st round. The tournament always provides
thrilling matches.
We are looking
forward to seeing you Saturday at the final match of the 2007 season to be
played at Morrone Stadium. The Goal Patrol (College Soccer's #1 fan group)
will be out in full force to support the Huskies in this weekend's
Quarterfinal match. If you are in attendance, feel free to sit with the
Goal Patrol this Saturday.
