Gerard Martin
Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

The strength and conditioning program for the University of Connecticut is under the supervision of UConn Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Jerry Martin. Martin is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as a Certified Level I Coach from the Unites States Weightlifting (USAW). He is in his 19th year at the University of Connecticut and has had previous experience at Yale University and at Syracuse University. He has been a finalist for the National Strength Coach of the Year Award (1994, 2001) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and received the prestigious award in 2004. He has also been the Head Strength Coach for the USA Women’s Field Hockey Team that took the bronze medal in the 1994 World Cup. Coach Martin earned his masters degree in Exercise Training and Testing. He is also a conference speaker at both the regional and national levels.

Chris West

Chris West is currently the associate head coach for strength and conditioning. Prior to his appointment at the University of Connecticut, he served as an athletic trainer at Saint Louis University and was later appointed as strength and conditioning coordinator.  West also has experience serving strength and conditioning and athletic training internships with the Oakland Raiders and Los Angeles Kings and a graduate assistantship with the Seattle Seahawks. He earned his bachelor’s degree for University of California at Long Beach in kinesiology and master’s degree in exercise and movement science from the University of Oregon. West holds certifications with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning specialist, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist.


Amanda Kimball

Amanda is in her fifth year at the University of Connecticut. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Maine in health and fitness through the Department of Sports Medicine. She graduated with her Master's in applied exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Springfield College in 2004. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is also a Certified Level I coach from the United States Weightlifting (USAW). She is also a graduate of the Connecticut School of Massage Therapy and is a Licensed Massage Therapist. 

Maureen Butler

Maureen is in her fourth year as an assistant strength coach. She received her Master’s degree in exercise physiology through the Kinesiology Department at Connecticut in 2005. She also earned her Bachelor's degree in fitness management from Connecticut in 2003. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is also a Certified Level I coach from the United States Weightlifting (USAW). She is a former field hockey student-athlete at UConn.

Andrew Wilson

Drew is in his third year as an assistant strength coach at Connecticut. Drew’s primary responsibility is with the football team. Drew received his bachelor’s degree from Kings College in 2000 in Criminal Justice Sociology. He graduated with his Master’s degree from Springfield College in 2004 with a degree in Applied Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning. Drew is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is also a certified level 1 coach from the United States Weightlifting (USAW).

Zak is in his first year as a graduate assistant at Connecticut.  He received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning through the kinesiology department at Connecticut in 2008. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a certified sports performance coach from United States Weightlifting (USAW), and a certified sports nutritionist (CISSN) from the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN). Zak is also a veteran of the armed forces and a former walk-on football student-athlete at UConn.

Matt is in his second year working with strength and conditioning at Connecticut. He is currently pursuing his degree in exercise physiology through the kinesiology department. Matt received his bachelor’s degree from the Temple University in 2007 with a degree in exercise science. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
